The River

The River

The River is a sextet brought together by singer/songwriter Lily Kiara, with the wild imagination of hearing songs, improvised music and poetry in one flow. They started with the songs by Lily, on guitar and vocals, poems by English poet Julyen Hamilton, clarinet and saxophone by Michael Moore and trumpet and vocals by Felicity Provan in 2006. Two years later the band was expanded with Michael Vatcher on drums, percussion and Joost Buis on lap steel guitar and trombone. An unlikely combination, yet blending so naturally when in concert. The four improvising musicians are each known in the jazz and improvised music scene in Amsterdam and far beyond.

The River played the mini series The Swim Sessions and recorded the last of these concerts at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam. This Sunday will see them cross the IJ for an inspiring afternoon concert.
