Going Native: Spain

tierra
Every week, Going Native takes you on a trip to a country, with a local dish and a matching movie. This week’s country is Spain. Vegetarian tapas with meaty mushrooms and chorizo flambé for those with a craving for porc.

Very much in line with the concept the movie is also Spanish. Tierra is one of the older films by director Julio Medem (Lucía y el Sexo, Los amantes del Círculo Polar). Insect exterminator Ángel comes to a small town in Aragon to do his dirty job. He falls in love with the cuckolded wife Angela, and teenage tramp Mari. Poetic, surrealistic, magical, and beautifully shot: this is going to be quite an experience.
