DE BEREN GIEREN
Dutch-Belgian acoustic-electronic piano trio De Beren Gieren (The Bears Shriek, Les Ours Vautours) are known for their unique energetic sound, sparkling melodies, complex structures and quirky songtitles. They bring a new yet familiar blend of polyrhythmic soundscapes, sing-alongs and elitist twists, building a sonorous bridge between early 20th century classical compositions and more contemporary escapades. De Beren Gieren show an ability to change mood quite suddenly in a way that constantly holds one’s attention. A surprising live experience not to be missed.

After their much appreciated live album “The Detour Fish” (2014) with trumpeter Susana Santos Silva, they are now successfully touring Europe with their 2nd release on the illustrious record label Clean Feed. On “One Mirrors Many” the band adds subtle electronics creating an elusive fuzzy layer underneath their characteristic acoustic sound of piano-bass-drums. This multilayered kaleidoscopic work of modern art has since then received international acclaim from specialized press and beyond.

Fulco Ottervanger – piano
Lieven van Pée – bass
Simon Segers – drums

BEN VAN GELDER SOLO
Despite his age, Ben van Gelder (25) is emerging as an important new voice on New York’s groundbreaking improvised music scene. Peers and critics alike praise him for his unique sound and originality as a composer and improviser. He performs all around the world in various settings and formations. Rooted in the jazz tradition, he creates music that is informed by a multitude of contemporary influences resulting in a sound that is lyrical, at times orchestral, but above all current.

His highly anticipated debut album, Frame of Reference, released in 2011, features some of the most talented and innovative musicians, including master pianist Aaron Parks and award winning trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. The record garnered critical acclaim by press world wide and was accompanied by two successful tours in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. His latest record Reprise (Pirouet), released in September of 2013 was received equally well. The record features guest performances of Mark Turner and Ben Street alongside his regular quintet.

Ben is currently working on a album for a chordless formation which is due for release in 2014. In the meantime he will keep a busy schedule performing in New York and abroad.
