This concert was made possible by the Zomerjazzfietstour Groningen.

An extraordinary line-up, combining the Amsterdam, New York, and Chicago scenes with a touch of Switzerland. A wonderful way for those who visited the Zomerjazzfietstour Groningen to stay on that cloud just a little bit longer. And, of course, it’s great that the season has finally started again.

Ingrid Laubrock / Michael Moore / Jasper Stadhouders / Tom Rainey

A never-before seen combination of musicians, that makes sense all the same.

Both Tom Rainey, and Ingrid Laubrock have made a name for themselves for quite some time now, as parts of the New York City modern creative jazz scene. Since the late ’80’s, Tom Rainey has played and recorded with an impressive amount of artists, and was in groups with, amongst others, Tony Malaby, Tim Berne, and Fred Hersch. Same goes for Laubrock, who has played and recorded with Anthony Braxton, Peter Evans, Craig Taborn, Kris Davis, Ig Henneman, Ab Baars, Luc Ex, etc. She was a part of the 2015 dOeK festival.

Rainey and Laubrock have a long history of playing together in several formations, including the Tom Rainey trio, with Mary Halvorson (for those interested, review of their last Bimhuis show here: http://www.jazzenzo.nl/?e=105). It only makes sense for Jasper Stadhouders to fill these shoes, something we know he will do with pleasure.

Last member of this group is Michael Moore. He and Tom Rainey go back 35 years now, and have played together in the past. Being the versatile player that we know he is, we’re sure he’ll add an extra dimension to the group’s set.

Christoph Erb / Jim Baker / Frank Rosaly

A rare chance to see this trio in action. Conceived in Chicago, where Erb came for an exchange from Switzerland, and certainly not a traditional jazz trio. Especially the parts by Jim Baker, who alternates between piano, and the futuristic 70’s sounds of the ARP2600, give the group its own flavour. Add to this, the fact that we’re dealing with three seasoned improvisers, this will certainly be something to look forward to.
