LUCA SGUERA AKA
AKA carries on a personal research through repetitions, polyphony and the exploration of timbric and rhythmic balances within the quartet. Such an idea, merged with a particular focus on the sound
of the band and filtered by suggestions of Aka Pygmies music, leads to compositions in which free improvisation is shaped by the written material.

This project, born in September 2017 in Siena Jazz academy, made its first public appearence within A Jazz Supreme festival in Florence, and has been playing around Italy and Europe. Journalist Neri Pollastri wrote about their first performance: “The band proposed three excellent tunes with dark, suspended and tormented atmospheres, weel interpreted by young musicians we’ll certainly hear about in the next future.”

AKA’s first record, produced, recorded and mixed by Dan Kinzelman, will be released by Auand label on 11st January 2019.
