NIEUWE NOTEN: Clarice Lispector – music & literature

Wednesday, April 12, 20:30, entrance: donation

NIEUWE NOTEN is our concert series for contemporary chamber music. New compositions by contemporary composers by an eclectic combination of musicians.

And now — now it only remains for me to light a cigarette and go home. Dear God, only now am I remembering that people die. Does that include me? Don’t forget, in the meantime, that this is the season for strawberries. Yes.

This night is the try-out of a new project centered around the work of the Brazilian-Ukranian-Jewish writer Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) – the subject of a recent biography by Dutch writer Benjamin Moser.

Or, simply: Clarice, as everyone in Brazil calls her. There, her poetic, abstract and untamed work is often used as a basis for concerts of improvised music. Clarinet player Fie Schouten brings together five musicians to do the same thing: new music and improvisations centered around readings (in Dutch translations by Harrie Lemmens) of De ontdekking van de wereld / A Descoberta do Mundo.
