JARRETT GILGORE/FRANK ROSALY/WILBERT DE JOODE

First meeting of three skilful, spirited improvisers.

Self-taught musician Wilbert de Joode has been playing the double bass since 1982. At the start, De Joode worked mainly in groups that took jazz as a starting point for improvisation. He is a well sought after collaborator and a source of inspiration to many. Currently he is considered one of the great specialists in Collective Improvisation and Instant Composing. He has a clear vision on music and improvisation, but never lost the ability to create music from intuition, putting the music and the delicate bond between improvising group members before the individual.

Frank Rosaly is a drummer and composer living in Chicago. He has been involved in the improvised and experimental music community since 2001 where he has become an integral part of Chicago’s musical fabric, navigating a fine line between the vibrant improvised music, experimental, rock and jazz communities. He contributes much of his time to performing, composing, teaching, as well as organizing musical events, while also touring regularly domestically and internationally. In the past year he took part in a number of collaborations with Amsterdam based musicians, thus playing a part in connecting the vibrant jazz scenes of Chicago and Amsterdam.

Jarrett Gilgore is a saxophonist, improvisor, and composer currently based in Baltimore, MD. He is a member of Talkshow, Jazz Lunch, Words Are Not Enough, Out of Your Head Collective, Ben Frock’s Love Unit, Jaimie Branch’s Bombshelter, Chris Pumphrey Sextet, and Triage. He performs in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and some other places in the United States. He is fortunate to have had opportunities to perform with Steve Swell, Andrew D’Angelo, Susan Alcorn, Dave Ballou, Frank Rosaly, Anton Hatwich, Jaimie Branch, Anthony Pirog, Adam Hopkins, Deric Dickens, Noah Jarrett, Toby Summerfield, John Dierker, and many other inspiring musicians.
