Space is the Place: David Kweksilber solo + Bite the Gnatze

Wednesday, November 25, 20:30, entrance € 10

DAVID KWEKSILBER
There are only few musicians so well versed in both classical and improvised music as reeds player David Kweksilber. He doesn’t think in genres but simply plays what feels good and interesting to him. Or he lets other people play, as he does with his David Kweksilber Big Band, an almost absurdly diverse and colorful ensemble in which many genres and styles collide. His solo concerts are marked by creativity, virtuosity and humor.

Kweksilber about this concert: “I will play special things and have some new horns I’d like to blow.”

BITE THE GNATZE
The band Bite the Gnatze is playing for sixteen years now and working with the same musicians, all rooted in the jazz and improvised music scene of Amsterdam. In the music composed by guitarplayer Paul Pallesen you can hear echoes of Monk and Mingus and modern classical composers as Milhaud and Ives. But with the banjo , lapsteelguitar and the whistle you hear folkmusic subtile slipping into the music. ‘A collective whose comic flair and precise technique confirms the exuberant passion and confidence of Holland’s free music scene’ (Cadence)

Joost Buis – trombone and lapsteelguitar
Michel Duijves – clarinet, bassclarinet and whistle
Meinrad Kneer – double bass
Frank van Bommel – piano, vibraphone and glockenspiel
Alan Purves – percussion and drums
Paul Pallesen – electric guitar, baritone guitar, banjo and bouzouki
