Listening and responding, following and counteracting, creating in the moment: that’s what music improvisation is all about. SPACE ACADEMY is a series of masterclasses by world-renowned improv musicians and performers. In an afternoon talk and workshop they share their vision on music and improvising and make music with the participants. After dinner there will be a concert by the lecturer and a jam. Both the afternoon masterclass and the evening concerts are for musicians and non-playing visitors.
Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti is a multi-talented “total” artist, her performances surprise without exception. Her creative ability covers the distance from her native country (Bolivia) to her current home (Amsterdam).
Performance making from and with materials
Each participant may bring a self-chosen material that can be played as an extension of the body or as an object.
For example: wood, metal, stones, etc. (Quantity also determined by yourself).
We will get to know, listen to and play from and with the materials inherent qualities. Investigate the relationship between the material and our body. We will notice how our presence, gaze, direction and breath offers a very broad spectrum of possibilities, as an extension of our listening, in order for performativity and movement to unfold in a natural and practical way.
Het maken van performance vanuit en met materialen
“In deze masterclass zal Ibelisse het gebruik van verschillende materialen als bron van beeld, geluid, performativiteit en ruimtelijk bewustzijn nemen als startpunt. Ieder deelnemer mag een zelf gekozen materiaal mee nemen die als verlengde van het lichaam of als object kan worden bespeeld. Bijvoorbeeld: Hout, metaal, stenen en zo voort (Kwantiteit ook zelf bepaald).
We zullen het materiaal leren kennen, beluisteren, bespelen en de relatie onderzoeken tussen het materiaal en ons lichaam. We zullen merken hoe onze aanwezigheid, blik, richting en adem een heel breed spectrum biedt, en het is de verlenging van ons luisteren.
Om vervolgense op deze wijze de performativiteit en beweging op een natuurlijk en praktisch wijze te laten ontvouwen.
We zullen études maken waarin het ruimtelijk denken en zijn vertellings kracht in verwerkt kan worden, samen met de klank en performatief compositie.”
