STEVEN KAMPERMAN – CITY MAPS
It’s not a concert, it’s a trip! Alto clarinetist Steven Kamperman is known as a compelling and resourceful soloist.  As a composer he has an unusually wide sound palette. In his ‘City Maps’ this diversity comes together in a special musical journey.  On the basis of a road map and video images by Henriëtta Müller, Kamperman, trumpeter Bart Maris, guitarist Jorrit Westerhof and bassist Dion Nijland take the visitor on an adventurous journey through an imagined city.

HARMEN FRAANJE / SANEM KALFA
Harmen Fraanje is a pianist, composer and educator from the Netherlands. He leads and co-leads several projects like his solo project, trio Reijseger Fraanje Sylla and more. These groups mostly perform original works with a lot of space for improvisation. As a pianist he is a virtuoso and as challenging as he is modest.

Sanem Kalfa is a Turkish singer with a distinctive style that blends jazz, improvisation and world music into a powerful blend of emotions. Harmen and Sanem perform as a duo for the first time, so we are very excited and curious!

BERLINDE DEMAN / SAARTJE VAN CAMP
“Silence is not the absence of sound. Silence is the deepest sound.” Tao Meng said.
Nowadays there is a nonstop symphony of noise and movement. Berlinde Deman
plays the serpent, a sixteenth century wind instrument. How did the world sound back
then? In her music Berlinde creates space for silence and opportunities for the mind
to slow down, using sound as an extension of her breath. She combines her very old
instrument with present-day techniques, such as pedals and loops to build a bridge
between then and now, to bring lightness and fun in her melancholic play.

Saartje Van Camp is a cellist, singer, theatre maker and solo performer. Moreover,
she co-operates with Spinvis, with whom she has played in nearly all Dutch and
Belgian theatres. In her work she combines her love of text and music, always
looking for connection between acoustic and electronic sounds, composition and
impromptu creation.

Saartje and Berlinde have played together in different bands and were surprised to
discover how much the timbre of their instruments overlap and share the same
melancholic energy. During a residential stay at Gent they worked together and
tonight Saartje and Berlinde wish to present this duo to you. They will perform a
number of existing compositions in combination with music of their own, along with
instances of improvisation, during which they will both manipulate their acoustic
instruments with pedals and loops.
