AMBUSH PARTY BROKEN CUMBIA
The Ambush Party is aptly named indeed. As in an ambush, the band lies in wait for the listener, and takes him by surprise. The group takes its inspiration from such diverse genres as noise, tango, opera, drum ‘n’ bass and jazz and especially for this edition: cumbia! The foursome has a great sense of musical humor to boot, in the grand tradition of the playful, sometimes sardonic irony of Misha Mengelberg. The second half of the band’s name is just as appropriate as the first: this music is a party!
Natalio Sued – tenor sax | Oscar Jan Hoogland – piano | Harald Austbø – cello | Marcos Baggiani – drums
REINIER BAAS/FUENSANTA MENDEZ
Two of the most talented creative musicians, who know each other from the Amsterdam jazz scene, meet for a set of inspiring improvisations
In their own words:
Reinier Baas and Fuensanta Méndez were sitting in their swimming suits covered in bike oil eating salad from four different tupperwares at the back of a limousine in June 2019. An hour earlier they had watched a house amidst the Alps burn down. Reinier wrote the song that sounds the most like begonias. For it, Fuensanta wrote a poem about church things and silverfish. This felt very right. On this evening they will play a compilation of each other’s favourite compositions, improvisations, and songs they would like to have written.
Reinier Baas – guitar | Fuensanta Mendez – double bass, voice
DODÓ KIS
Dodó Kis is a versatile player on recorder and EWI from Hungary with classical roots and initiator of numerous adventurous expeditions. She is also organizer of the beautiful multi-disciplinary and multi-genre-evenings the Ear Sessions.
Dodó Kis – recorders, EWI
ERIC BOEREN/MIGUEL PETRUCCELLI/FRANK ROSALY
Eric Boeren, Miguel Petrucelli and Frank Rosaly have each been a fixture within the Amsterdam improv scene for years. In this trio they improvise with imaginary folk music from the Andes and Africa, as one cannot untie the knots of folk music and improvisation.
Eric Boeren – cornet | Miguel Petruccelli – (bass) guitar | Frank Rosaly – drums
