time of the gypsies

This week’s movie is one of the earlier ones from Emir Kusturica: Time of the Gypsies. Perhan is a young Roma gypsy with telekenetic powers. He is lured into a world of petty crime that eventually threatens him and the ones he loves. The imagination of Kusturica is matched by only a few directors alive today. Like his most of his other films, Time of the Gypsies is a journey through a place where music is not just heard but felt, and where life and death are very close to each other. With a beautiful soundtrack by Goran Bregovic. Won the award for Best Director in Cannes and was nominated for the Palm d’Or.
