AB BAARS / IG HENNEMAN: ‘CANZONE DI PRIMAVERA’ ALBUM RELEASE
The always fashionable and forward thinking romantic ánd musical duo of saxofonist / clarinetist Ab Baars and violist Ig Henneman present their new album ‘Canzone di Primavera’. Moving forward after Autumn Songs the duo now chooses spring as their muse ‘Canzoni di Primavera’. A mix of chamber music and jazz.

About Autumn Songs (Wig 22):

  • “Even in free improvisation mode, this duo is in sync. That, and the unique melodicism arising from their duets, are what makes Autumn Songs an artistic success, an example of musical perfection.” -Francois Couture
  • “The music balances breathy notes against woody tones, as the pair recites their musical wordless poetry.” – Mark Corroto
  • “All pieces consist of composed themes that form the outset for improvisations. There is nothing exceptional in this by itself, but the way both musicians expand on the theme, and the way the other musician then takes this expansion as a basis for further exploration, is exceptional. Even more so, because they are not afraid to use dissonance as a key ingredient of their sound.” – Stef Gijssels

ALISTAIR PAYNE QUINTET
Raw and Harmony-less. A dive into the Avant-guard whilst holding onto the indie and folk upbringing of South West Scotland. The Quintet sits on a wave of Post-Modern Jazz flowing out of Amsterdam. Melodic and muscular, they strive for something tangible in the Avant-Guard. Consider it a no mans land between Billy Holliday and Bjork chalked full of the back and forth chitter chatter that is improvised music. With a history of playing together in many different Amsterdam based groups, the band has a mature sensibility to it’s approach.
