Record Store Day: Klaverfestival

On Record Store Day, a record store / venue like DE RUIMTE has no other option than throwing a party! An album release party, to be precise, as The Lasses will present their second album Daughters, during an evening filled with live music. The Lasses, Katía, Joost van Kersbergen, Moi, le Voisin and Babboo have agreed to play.

Lasses Margot and Sophie met at Victor Lacken’s Wednesday session in Mulligans and found out their voices went very well together: Margots husky alto and Sophies emotive soprano complement each other perfectly. Irish traditionals, Americana and folk standards brought to the stage or the street in tender harmony! They will present their second album Daughters with a set of their best songs.

Katía’s music sounds like walking through the city, without knowing exactly where you are going. The songs might take you to a public square, an abandoned alley, her house or a hidden garden. Along the way you might run into familiar strangers, sweet ingredients, pink skies, old trees and sore feet.

The original songwriting of Babboo varies from Gypsy manouche to French musette, from pop ballads to African rhythms, from popular cumbia to intellectual samba and Cuban son. Their show can be described as a danceable poetry, very energetic and elegantly rough, moving and touching at the same time.

Moi, le Voisin know their roots, but like screwing around with them. The Dutch band plays a mixture of folk and indie pop, inhabiting a space somewhere between Neutral Milk Hotel, Jacques Brel en Will Oldham. Indiepop, folk and country change places in an unruly mix of melancholy and exuberance.

Joost van Kersbergen describes himself as a word artist, for obvious reasons. He expresses this in his music, poetry and every other form imaginable.

Entrance will be free, but you are welcome to put something in the hat for the performing musicians. Or you can buy an album, as our record store will be open all night 🙂
