Josh will play Diction of Inefficiencies. Josh: ‘my attempt at working with the structural possibilities of the non-resonant sounds of the baritone saxophone. The piece is very quiet and is not intendended for amplification. It demands that the listeners physically “lean in” so as to hear better. My hope is that the mild strain this demands of the listener brings them and I into closer communication as the piece was begun when I was feeling distanced from many of the people around me and I often found myself straining to communicate. This was a piece I began as a way of clearing away the detritus of much of my previous musical efforts and in an attempt to “begin anew” as it were.’ This concert in de Ruimte will be his first solo concert in Europe.
