Going Native: Italy

Monday, March 3, 18h, film starts at 20.30h, € 8 for a two course meal, € 10 for three courses

Every week Going Native takes you on a trip to a country, with a local dish and a movie to match it. This week we are going to the country where food is a religion. After a modest start the menu will turn out to be sumptuous: bruschetta, risotto ai funghi and panna cotta. Try Going Native’s apéritif if you need something to get you going. This evening’s chef will be Sam van Berkel. He spends a lot of time in Italy and is honored to cook these Italian classics for you.

At 20.30h we will screen a film about a family in the pasta making business: Mine Vaganti. As if there’s not enough food on the table. Tomasso is the youngest son of the conservative Cantone family. On a trip from Rome to the family estate in the south of Italy he decides to tell his parents the truth about his life. He is not really attending business school and wants to become a writer. But more importantly: he is gay. Before he can share the news his brother Antonio drops a bombshell of his own that causes dad to have a small heart attack. Tomasso keeps quiet and decides to take over the pasta factory, but a visit from his flamboyant gay friends turns things upside down.
