Going Native: India

Monday, February 17, 18h, film starts around 20.30h, € 8 for a two course meal, € 10 for three courses

Every week Going Native takes you on a trip to a country, with a local dish and a movie to match it. This week we are going to India. Ivo and Kai are cooking. On the menu: Chapati’s with a bunch of vegetarian dips, Vegetable Biryani (a flavourful Indian stirfry), and a herby rice pudding for dessert.

barfi

After the meal we will screen atypical Bollywood movie Barfi. The hearing and speech impaired charmer Murphy (his friends call him Barfi) falls in love with Shruti. Shruti’s parents want her to marry a normal man and lead a normal life. She complies to their wishes, but when years later she finds out Barfi is in love with someone else and on the run for the police, she starts to doubt the choices she made. A bittersweet, poignant and overwhelming cinematographic experience.
