Space is the Place: Mars Williams & Jasper Stadhouders & Wilbert De Joode & Martin van Duynhoven

Friday, April 10, 21h, entrance € 9

Legendary saxophone player Mars Williams played en plays with every important musician of the cooking Chicago’s and New York’s downtown scene. His heavily enthusiastic and boundless approach to music gives him a wild sound with which he pierced a wide range of genres like free jazz, funk, hiphop and rock. John Zorn once typified Mars as follows:

“One of the true saxophone players–someone who takes pleasure in the sheer act of blowing the horn. This tremendous enthusiasm is an essential part of his sound, and it comes through each note every time he plays. Whatever the situation, Mars plays exciting music. In many ways he has succeeded in redefining what versatility means to the modern saxophone player.”

At Space is the Place Mars will perform with heavyweight Dutch jazz musicians with an equal open minded love for improvised music. Curator Jasper Stadhouders turns his guitar upside-down and inside-out, Wilbert de Joode is a true in-the-moment-masterpiece on the double bass and drummer Martin van Duynhoven simply deserves a statue.
