Doors 20:00, Music 20:30 tickets 10-20 (Sliding Scale)
A special occasion tonight with NY based bassist / composer Brandon Lopez in town, working at the fringes of contemporary music with top musicians from Matthew Shipp to John Zorn. He will be teaming up with guitarist Gabirel de Oliveira and drummer Samuel Ber in a trio and subsequently in a double bass duo with Pietro Elia Barcellona! Next to that BUI co-founder improvisor/saxophonist Elsa van der Linden will perform solo.
GABRIEL DE OLIVEIRA / BRANDON LOPEZ / SAMUEL BER
Brandon Lopez is a rising star bassist and composer based in New York City, whose work deals with improvisation and new possibilities for the double bass in solo and collective forms – often praised as “relentless”, “brutal” and “transforming”.
Upon invitation of Amsterdam-based collective KB_, he joins forces with Brazilian guitarist (and longtime admirer) Gabriel de Oliveira and Belgian drummer Samuel Ber as a new trio, connecting three generations and international scenes of creative music. With a recording and tour in sight, they push towards an encounter of sonorities and improvisation languages: Puerto Rican, Brazilian, diasporic traditions and avant-garde movements of the global North vigorously meshed and stretched.
BRANDON LOPEZ / PIETRO ELIA BARCELLONA
A double bass meeting of two improvisers from different corners of the world!
ELSA VAN DER LINDEN
Elsa van der Linden (1994) does research into capturing the moment, by listening, performing and documenting. As a musician and scenographer, she is interested in unexpected events. She plays with the saxophone as an instrument and space as a co-player. For her, improvisation is a perfect tool to listen to what is already there and use that as a starting point to create a moment-specific experience.
